Emigrate to Portugal

Since we met in 1992, we both had the urge to move to a warm country. With a tourism education that was a result of this feeling, Sabine still worked in this sector in the Netherlands for many years; from stewardess to years of independent travel consultant, including organizing sports trips (such as mountain bike trips, yoga trips and F1 and football trips) to park manager of two holiday parks in North Holland.
In the meantime, we had three sons who had a wonderful life in the picturesque North Holland village of Warmenhuizen, resulting in studying at the universities of Amsterdam. Being in the middle of life with friends, studying, football, going out and other hobbies, they did not think about emigrating with us. So we stayed on for a while.... Still, our blood is thicker than water and we increasingly actively searched for beautiful country houses in Portugal. Why Portugal? We had been sold on it for years. With acquaintances and friends who already lived in the Algarve, the choice was quickly made for us: the Algarve had to be it!

When doubt strikes, because we would leave three sons behind if we were to continue this, sometimes things come your way that you cannot and should not ignore. Bryan had been working as Chief of Finance at various companies for years. At the age of 36, however, he was diagnosed with a rare eye disease that did not make working with numbers and the associated full focus concentration any easier. After years of injections in his eye, laser treatments and surgery, his eye was really too bad in mid-2024 to sit behind a screen for full working weeks. His ophthalmologist advised retraining, or at least work where you could greatly reduce screen activities. Since gardening had always been a hobby of Bryan's, he could already see himself sitting on a large lawn mower at his own resort in Portugal.
When both our mindsets changed to an even more active search for our dream place in the Algarve, we found this place in December: Vivenda Santiago

We fell in love with it right away, because it offers the possibility to start renting out right away and also to apply for an additional tourist permit for the estate that is included, to be able to develop. On this estate we want to expand the three apartments that we have been renting out since May 2025, with a Glamping resort including possibilities for campers to come and spend the winter with us.

Saying goodbye to our three great guys is hard. At the same time, they are so proud of us for pursuing our dreams that they often drop by our beautiful spot in the sun.
We were even allowed to name the three apartments after them. So when you are our guest you cannot help but feel the hospitality and love that we as a family have for each other, but also for others and that is exactly the feeling that we would like to convey to you! The homely, accessible atmosphere, in the peace of the hinterland of Albufeira, but still only 20 km from this bustling seaside resort.
